8BitDo excitingly unveils ultra-sleek arcade controller for Xbox, Switch, and PC, launching this summer
All-button layout, hot-swappable switches, and tournament-ready features packed into an A4-sized design
Game Outlet Europe, a key distributor under the Embracer Freemode group, has officially announced the 8BitDo Arcade Controller, a brand-new series made for fighting game fans and arcade players. It’s designed to offer high performance in a compact form and is scheduled to ship in North America from July 15, 2025, and in Europe from August 15, 2025. Pre-orders are live now.
This new release will come in two versions:
- An officially licensed Xbox model compatible with Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Windows PC.
- A standard edition made for Nintendo Switch and Windows PC users.

Slim and portable design for travel
The 8BitDo Arcade Controller is designed to be exceptionally slim and portable. At only 1.6 cm thick, it’s nearly the size of an A4 sheet of paper. Compared to the original 8BitDo Arcade Stick, this one is about one-third the size, making it ideal for those who need a controller that’s easy to carry to tournaments or events.
Players can choose between wired play for the lowest possible input lag or enjoy wireless connectivity through 2.4G technology using the included USB adapter, which stores magnetically underneath the controller. The standard version also includes Bluetooth support, making it easy to connect to the Nintendo Switch.
All-button layout, hot-swappable switches, and tournament-ready features packed into an A4-sized design
The controller features an all-button arcade layout with a quad-movement design, helping players perform complex combos with precision and speed. It includes Programmable Buttons:
- The Xbox version allows remapping for P1 and P2.
- The standard version supports P1, P2, P3, and P4 remapping.
For those who prefer not to use the extra buttons, four button lock caps are included to cover them and prevent accidental presses.
To meet tournament standards, both models include SOCD (Simultaneous Opposing Cardinal Directions) cleaning and a Tournament Lock feature, making them ready for competitive scenes.
The standard version also includes a Dynamic Button Layout—when switching between Switch and PC mode, the button labels change automatically based on the input type, providing a smoother user experience.

Thoughtful and durable design
The 8BitDo Arcade Controller includes several useful design touches. Its Magnetic Foldable Metal Feet allow players to adjust the angle for better comfort. The Tempered Glass Faceplate is fingerprint-proof, offering a clean and sharp look. On the underside, a non-slip silicone mat helps keep the controller stable during intense sessions.
An Independent Control Panel on the top left gives easy access to key features. From here, players can adjust volume, RGB lighting, and button mapping with simple turn-and-click controls—no complex shortcuts needed.
The arcade controller features a hot-swappable PCB fitted with 16 Kailh Wizard low-profile mechanical switches, allowing users to replace them with other switch types if they prefer a different feel. Support for 8BitDo Ultimate Software adds even more control, with settings for button mapping, SOCD modes, firmware updates, and RGB lighting customisation (on the Xbox version).
