AMD RX 9070 GRE Specs Revealed: A Rival to Nvidia’s RTX 50 Series

AMD has unveiled its RDNA 4-based RX 9000 series, starting with the AMD RX 9070 GRE XT and RX 9070. Both come with 16GB GDDR6, improved compute efficiency, AI boosts, upgraded ray tracing, and FSR 4 support—taking aim at NVIDIA’s RTX 5070 Ti and 5070 with strong performance-to-price value.

Recent reports indicate AMD is expanding its RDNA 4 offerings with the AMD RX 9070 GRE and RX 9060 XT. The RX 9070 GRE, rumored to feature the Navi 48 XL chip, is expected to include 48 compute units (3,072 stream processors) with a clock speed of 2.79 GHz. While its core count is reduced compared to the RX 9070 XT and AMD RX 9070, its higher frequency may narrow performance gaps. Leaked benchmarks suggest the GRE’s FP32 compute performance could reach approximately 95% of the RX 9070’s capabilities.

The AMD RX 9070 GRE is speculated to adopt a 192-bit memory interface (down from 256-bit) paired with 12GB of 18 Gbps GDDR6, yielding 432 GB/s bandwidth—a 33% reduction from its siblings. Early performance projections from Neowin position the card competitively against NVIDIA’s rumored RTX 5060 Ti 16GB, showing a 34% lead in Steel Nomad benchmarks and comparable ray tracing results in Speed Way tests. However, real-world performance remains unverified until release.

While AMD has yet to confirm global availability for the RX 9070 GRE, industry observers anticipate a Q2 launch.
