ASUS unveils powerful ROG Xbox Ally handhelds with Xbox DNA and Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme muscle
ASUS has officially revealed the next evolution of its handheld gaming lineup with the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X, created in partnership with Xbox. These new devices blend the best of console and PC gaming into a single, portable experience. With comfort, power, and a deeply integrated Xbox interface at the heart of their design, both models are set to launch during the holiday season of 2025 in over 30 markets including the United States, United Kingdom, Japan, and many more.
The partnership between ASUS and Microsoft aims to offer players a more immersive and seamless experience from the moment the device powers on. Powered by Windows 11, both handhelds introduce a full-screen Xbox interface that allows for intuitive navigation using joysticks and buttons. From quick access to settings to full mod support for PC games, the ROG Xbox Ally series gives gamers complete freedom with the polish of Xbox and the flexibility of Windows.

On the hardware front, the standard ROG Xbox Ally comes equipped with the new AMD Ryzen Z2 A Processor, focusing on energy efficiency without compromising gaming performance. The higher-end ROG Xbox Ally X raises the bar further with the AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme Processor, offering improved graphical performance and better battery life through a larger 60Wh battery and lower power draw. Both chips support cutting-edge AMD technologies like FSR, RSR, and AFMF, ensuring smoother gameplay and higher framerates in demanding titles.

Ergonomics have also received a major update, based on years of user feedback. The redesigned chassis features a more comfortable grip, improved palm rest, and textures inspired by Xbox controllers for better hold during long sessions. The ROG Xbox Ally X takes it a step further by adding impulse triggers that enhance in-game haptics, delivering an experience closer to a traditional Xbox controller.
ROG Xbox Ally X – AI Ready
The ROG Xbox Ally X is also ready for the AI-powered future, thanks to its integrated NPU on the Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme chip. As AI features in Windows continue to grow, this device is well-positioned to support them.
According to ASUS, these handhelds combine the design expertise of ROG, the strength of AMD’s latest processors, and Xbox’s deep gaming ecosystem. With a focus on comfort, performance, and seamless software, the ROG Xbox Ally series aims to set a new standard for handheld gaming.
