PlayStation 5 Pro gets powerful PSSR 2.0 upgrade with big performance boost

PlayStation 5 Pro gets powerful PSSR 2.0 upgrade with big performance boost

Sony is reportedly getting ready to release a major software update for the PlayStation 5 Pro, and it could finally show what the console is truly capable of. According to a well known Japanese insider, the update is expected to arrive between January and March 2026.

The highlight of this update is PSSR 2.0, which is an improved version of PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution. This system uses smart upscaling to make games look sharper while keeping performance smooth. Many players felt the original version of PSSR did not make a big difference and sometimes caused visual issues. Sony now seems ready to fix that.

With PSSR 2.0, games will be able to create clearer 4K images from lower resolution frames in a more stable way. This means fewer visual errors and better use of the PS5 Pro’s powerful GPU. Games that currently run around 70 to 80 frames per second are expected to feel smoother and more consistent after the update.

There are also reports that Sony may add frame generation technology. If this happens, the PlayStation 5 Pro could reach 4K at 120 frames per second in more games. This would be a big step forward for players who want both high image quality and fast performance.

Another important part of the update is support for older games. Titles from the PlayStation Store and PlayStation Plus will benefit from better system level scaling. These games will appear sharper without developers needing to update them. This makes the improvement useful for a much larger game library.

PlayStation 5 Pro PSSR 2.0 in future games

Sony is also planning to give developers new tools to help them test and improve PSSR 2.0 in future games. This suggests that upcoming titles will be built to take full advantage of the PlayStation 5 Pro from day one.

While it may take time to see how new games fully use these features, this update could finally deliver the smoother gameplay and visual upgrade many PS5 Pro owners have been waiting for.
