Huawei Mate 40 Series Still Awaits HarmonyOS 5.0 Upgrade Confirmation

Huawei Terminal CEO He Gang recently visited his alma mater, Xidian University, for a Hongmeng campus open class. During the session, he was asked about plans to upgrade the Huawei Mate 40 series to HarmonyOS 5.0.

He responded that no final decision has been made, but the company is aware of user demand and will carefully evaluate the upgrade path. With over 10 million users, the Mate 40 series remains significant.

The Huawei Mate 40 Series, launched in October 2020, features the Kirin 9000E, while the Mate 40 Pro and Pro+ run on the Kirin 9000.

Huawei began public beta testing for HarmonyOS 5 on October 8, 2024. Models like the Mate 60 and 70 series, Mate X5 and X6, and others are already included. HarmonyOS 5.0.1 is set to roll out in Q2 2025, covering additional devices like the Mate 60 and 70 series, Nova Flip, MateXT, and MatePad Pro 13.2-inch.
