WHAT DO WE KNOW ABOUT THE NEW UPCOMING QUALCOMM SNAPDRAGON CHIPSET?

When it comes to creating quality Android chipsets, Qualcomm is undoubtedly a key player, and its new Snapdragon chip looks set to take chipsets to the next level. While much of the information about the new chip is still under wraps, here is a look at what we know so far.

WHAT IS THE NEW CHIP’S NAME?

While we do not know for certain what the name of the new Snapdragon chipset will be, if Qualcomm base the name on their previous chips, it looks almost certain that it will be called either the Snapdragon 895 or Snapdragon 898. And according to leakers, the new chip’s model number is expected to be SM8350 and its internal code name will be “Waipio,” named after an area in Hawaii.

WHAT WILL THE SPECS OF THE NEW CHIP BE?

Whether you use your phone to shop, play the latest casino games online, or even make calls to a friend in a faraway destination like Finland, you will surely want a boost in performance. Well, the new Snapdragon chipset from Qualcomm should provide precisely that.

While we can only estimate what the specs of the new chip will be, experts suggest it will have a 20% performance boost in comparison to the Snapdragon 888 chip. The new chipset should provide greater connection capabilities too, such as 5G speed, Wi-Fi 6E, NFC, and Bluetooth 5.2. Also, one issue with the current 888 chip is that it can overheat, so Qualcomm is predicted to fix that problem. Expect the new Snapdragon chipset to include enhanced artificial intelligence capabilities as well, which could improve things like battery life and photography. And many insiders are suggesting the chipset will come with rapid charging technology.

As for the chip’s architecture, it looks as though it will be based on the latest Armv9 standard. Insiders predict it will have components that include a Spectra 680 ISP, Adreno 730 GPU, and Integrated X65 5G modem.

Of course, it is the CPU that most people want to know about. It will likely use the latest ARM Cortex-X2 CPU core to increase performance. The thermals of the new chipset’s CPU look set to be enhanced too. According to leaks published by Digital Chat Station, the new Snapdragon chipset’s CPU is predicted to have the following specific cores:

  • 1 x Cortex-X2 at 3.0GHz
  • 3 x 2.50GHz
  • 4 x 1.79GHz

WHICH PHONES WILL USE THE NEW SNAPDRAGON CHIPSET?

Most original equipment manufacturers of Android Smartphones adopted the last Snapdragon chipset, so expect all of the major players to also use the new chip in their phones. That includes well-known names like Sony, OnePlus, XiaomiASUS, and Vivo. The companies that will not adopt the new Snapdragon set are sure to be Apple and Google, and most likely Huawei.

WHEN WILL THE NEW SNAPDRAGON CHIPSET BE REVEALED?

While we can make informed predictions about the new Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset, we still do not know for sure what its specs will be. But we should not have long to wait to find out more. Although not yet confirmed, it looks extremely likely that the new chipset will be unveiled at this year’s Snapdragon summit, which is due to take place between 29 November and 2 December. Insiders are suggesting the chip will be announced on the first day of the summit while its full details will be announced later in the summit.
