Windows 11 File Explorer Gets Faster and Better With New Update

Microsoft has released a new optional update for Windows 11 that brings noticeable improvements to File Explorer. The update, known as KB5095093, focuses on making one of Windows’ most important apps faster, smoother, and more reliable.

File Explorer is used every day by millions of Windows users to access files, folders, and drives. Over the years, many users complained that the app had become slow to open and less responsive. Microsoft previously tried to improve startup speed by preloading File Explorer in the background, but the latest update takes a different approach by improving the app itself.

One of the biggest changes is in the Home tab. Microsoft has redesigned the way files and information are loaded in this section. Since the Home page displays recent files, pinned folders, and content from connected cloud storage services, it often required extra time to gather data. The new design helps File Explorer load this information more efficiently, resulting in faster startup times.

The update also introduces several useful features. Users can now access new quick actions such as “Open file location” and “Ask Copilot” when interacting with files. Microsoft has also improved performance when mounting disk image files, making the process feel quicker and more responsive.

Another welcome improvement is better support for backslashes and quotation marks in the address bar. In addition, Microsoft says it has increased the overall reliability of the address bar, helping reduce issues and improve everyday usability.

Although KB5095093 is currently available as an optional update, these improvements will become available to all Windows 11 users through the mandatory July 2026 update.

With these changes, Microsoft is taking an important step toward making File Explorer faster and more dependable, giving Windows 11 users a smoother experience when managing their files and folders.
