The Myths to be Aware of When Visiting Online Casinos

The gambling industry continues to grow, and has especially gotten a lot of new customers in the past decade. Online casinos are especially getting a lot of attention, and generating billions. Many predict that they might even catch up to their land-based predecessors, and might even overtake them soon. Certainly, this information has attracted a whole slew of new customers to iGaming.

As with any new market, iGaming has its fair share of detractors. While this is understandable, there is also a big problem here. Much of the criticism levied against online casinos, about which you can learn more online is simply unfair, or untrue. That is why we are here. In this article, we’d like to address some of the myths that have arisen surrounding the online gambling market.

 The Threat of Compulsive Gambling

We are not here to say that compulsive gambling is a bit, or that problem gambling is not a real issue. In fact, it has been a problem since the Ancient Era, with many texts bringing up people’s inability to handle dice.

However, many people believe that online casino are more likely to cause problem gambling. In truth, however, there is no credible evidence of this claim. In fact, online casinos seem to be less likely to cause problem gambling than their land-based counterparts.

Having said that, of course online gamblers are also at risk. That is why online casinos do their best to fight against the issue, by working with different organizations and offering “self-exclusion” initiatives to new players.

Safety Concerns

Back in the 1990s, when online casinos first started appearing, the internet was not the same as it is today. Regulation barely existed, if at all. So, a lot of online casinos operated illegally, and thus were able to do whatever they wanted.

That is no longer the case, obviously. Licensed and regulated casinos today are unlikely to cause any problems, because these websites are legal and controlled by a government authority. Whether it is an offshore or domestic website, you can be sure that a licensed casino has everything taken care of.

On top of that, gambling websites are equipped with state of the art tech to prevent any external threats. Firewalls, SSL encryption, and two-factor authentication (2FA) are all popular tools that iGaming sites use to combat cyber criminals, and keep their users safe.

Can You Win a Cash Prize Online?

There is this strange idea among people who don’t know much about gambling, that online casinos don’t pay out. Of course, the conceit is absurd. Throughout history, many gamblers have won exorbitant amounts by playing slots, blackjack, or any other game online.

We can’t say where the misconception comes from. But we certainly have some theories. One is that people are still fearful of online casinos, because of the aforementioned problem with earlier websites, which no longer exists.

Another issue could be that people are misusing bonuses, and ignoring the terms and conditions. They then are outraged when the casino refuses to cash in on their bonuses. However, that is a problem with not engaging with the rules, rather than the casino’s general refusal to pay out.
