AMD shows powerful and exciting Ryzen AI Halo as a new AI development platform at CES 2026
At CES 2026, AMD introduced something that looks small but carries serious importance. The new Ryzen AI Halo may look like a compact desktop, but AMD is presenting it as a full AI development platform designed for building and testing consumer focused AI applications. This system is not meant to replace large data centre machines, but it offers developers a strong and practical way to work on AI directly from their desk.
The Ryzen AI Halo is powered by the Ryzen AI Max 395+, also known as Strix Halo. This chip comes with 16 cores and 32 threads based on the Zen 5 design, allowing it to handle demanding workloads such as AI development, software testing, and multitasking with ease. Alongside the CPU, the system includes a large built in GPU based on the RDNA 3.5 design with 40 compute units. This gives developers strong graphics power without the need for a separate graphics card.
AI tasks are further boosted by a dedicated NPU capable of delivering up to 50 TOPS. This NPU supports Microsoft Copilot+ features and allows AI workloads to run locally. For developers, this means faster results, lower latency, and better privacy when working with AI models.
AMD has equipped the system with either 32 GB or 64 GB of LPDDR5X memory, ensuring smooth performance across CPU, GPU, and NPU tasks. The platform supports both Windows 11 and Linux, giving users flexibility depending on their workflow. AMD is also shipping the box with AI models already installed and tuned for the hardware, making it easier for developers to start working right away.
Despite its strong hardware, the Ryzen AI Halo remains compact thanks to a custom cooling solution. AMD uses a solid baseplate, flat heatpipes that make direct contact with the chip, an aluminium channel heatsink, and two side mounted fans. This setup helps maintain stable performance while keeping noise and heat under control during long workloads.
AMD is positioning Ryzen AI Halo as a local AI development system, similar in purpose to NVIDIA’s DGX Spark, but focused on consumer level AI applications rather than large scale computing. It is aimed at developers, researchers, and small teams who need capable AI hardware without the complexity of enterprise systems.

The Ryzen AI Halo AI developer platform is expected to be available in Q2 2026. While pricing has not been announced, the message from AMD is clear. AI development can be powerful, accessible, and compact, and it does not always require massive machines to get meaningful work done.
