Sony Xperia 1 VII Certified Stunning 4K Display Modest 4850mAh Battery
The Sony Xperia 1 VII has received certification from the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC), revealing official product images and partial specifications.
Design & Dimensions:
Retaining Sony’s signature aesthetic, the Sony Xperia 1 VII measures 162 x 74.5 x 8.5mm, making it marginally thicker than its predecessor (162 x 74 x 8.2mm).
Battery & Display:
The device houses a 4850mAh rated battery (5000mAh typical capacity), unchanged from the previous model. However, the reintroduction of a 4K OLED display—absent in the Sony Xperia 1 VII—could lead to significantly higher power consumption, potentially reducing battery life compared to earlier iterations.
Sony reportedly omitted the 4K screen in the Xperia 1 VI due to limitations in dynamic refresh rate support, which restricted it to fixed 60Hz or 120Hz modes. The Xperia 1 VII may resolve this issue, enabling adaptive refresh rates.
The 6.5-inch hole-free OLED panel maintains Sony’s commitment to symmetrical designs, adopting a 19.5:9 aspect ratio (aligning with mainstream devices) rather than the brand’s traditional 21:9 “CinemaWide” format.
Performance & Features:
- Powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset.
- Configurations: 12/16GB RAM and 256/512GB storage.
- Retains the 3.5mm headphone jack, now enhanced with Walkman audio technology for improved sound quality.
Availability:
The Xperia 1 VII is set to debut on May 15, with a same-day launch in Japan. Global rollout is expected by July 2024.
