Halo: Campaign Evolved brings an amazing Unreal Engine 5 remake of a legendary story
Microsoft has officially announced Halo: Campaign Evolved, a complete Unreal Engine 5 remake of the classic Halo: Combat Evolved campaign. This remake brings the original story back to life with beautiful 4K graphics, re-recorded voice lines, and new surprises that honour the series’ history while making it shine for today’s players.
The first Halo changed gaming forever, becoming one of the most iconic first-person shooters of all time. With Halo: Campaign Evolved, Halo Studios wants both new players and long-time fans to feel the same magic once again. The team aims to preserve the emotional impact and excitement of the original game, while improving everything from visuals to pacing.

Players can look forward to three new bonus missions that expand the story, along with improved animations, lighting, and sound design. For the first time, the game supports four-player online co-op across Xbox, PC, and PlayStation 5, as well as two-player local split-screen on console.
According to Executive Producer Damon Conn, starting with the original campaign felt like the perfect way to reintroduce Halo. “We wanted to go back to where it all began. This campaign defined Halo, and we’re rebuilding it from the ground up for a new generation,” he explained.

Creative Director Max Szlagor added that every mission has been carefully rebuilt to stay true to the spirit of the original game. The team has improved level design, navigation, and combat flow without losing the classic Halo feel. For example, the famous “Library” mission has been updated with better pacing, new dialogue for Guilty Spark, and more storytelling elements that make the level easier to follow and more engaging.

Players will also find new gameplay elements added to this version. Halo: Campaign Evolved lets you use nine extra weapons from later Halo games, including the Battle Rifle and Energy Sword. You can now hijack enemy vehicles and even pilot a Covenant Wraith tank, something never possible in the 2001 original. The game also features the most Skulls ever in a Halo campaign, letting players customise their experience further.
Perhaps the most exciting part is the addition of three brand-new prequel missions that take place before the main campaign. These new levels will introduce fresh environments, enemies, and storylines, giving players more reasons to explore this reimagined world.
Built entirely in Unreal Engine 5, the remake combines the power of modern technology with the legacy systems from the original game. This blend ensures that the gameplay still feels authentically Halo, while looking breathtakingly modern. Game Director Greg Hermann confirmed that Unreal Engine 5 allows the team to push visuals to the next level without losing the gameplay feel that fans love.
Halo Studios is also taking a community-first approach, working closely with players through the Halo Insider Program to ensure the game feels right. The first public demo will be available at the upcoming Halo World Championships, giving fans an early look at the progress.
As Damon Conn summed it up: “We’re not rewriting Halo’s legacy – we’re inviting players to experience it in a whole new way. This is Halo for everyone.”
