MSI reveals a powerful and exciting RTX 5090 Lightning Z with record breaking performance

MSI has officially revealed its most powerful graphics card to date, the MSI GeForce RTX 5090 Lightning Z. This flagship GPU is built for extreme performance and shows how far MSI can push modern graphics hardware. The company describes it as a true example of top level engineering, and early details strongly support that claim.

Right now, this card stands as the most powerful graphics card in the world. MSI has confirmed that the RTX 5090 Lightning Z has already achieved 17 world performance records through overclocking. These records place it ahead of all current competitors, and they may remain unbroken until a future generation arrives.

At first glance, the design looks different from traditional high end graphics cards. The RTX 5090 Lightning Z uses a built in water cooling system along with three fans. Because of this, the card appears smaller and cleaner than large air cooled designs. While it may look simple, it is designed for extreme workloads where heat control is critical.

One of the most impressive parts of this graphics card is its PCB design. There is almost no empty space around the GPU chip. This is because MSI has packed in a massive 40 phase power delivery system. The PCB is strengthened with a thick copper layer and uses high quality parts to ensure stable power and heat flow. This helps the card stay reliable even under very heavy loads. A dual BIOS system is also included for extra safety and flexibility.

All this power comes at a cost, and that cost is energy use. The RTX 5090 Lightning Z uses two 16 pin PCI Express power connectors. In overclocked mode, the card can draw around 800 watts. In extreme mode, power use can go beyond 1000 watts. Because of this, MSI recommends a power supply of at least 1600 watts. Using adapters is not advised, as this card is designed for native 16 pin connections.

In terms of core specs, the card features 21,760 CUDA cores, matching other RTX 5090 models. However, it stands out with much higher clock speeds. Out of the box, it can reach up to 2775 MHz, which is far higher than the standard Founders Edition. Memory speed stays at 28 Gbps, keeping it in line with the reference design.

A unique feature of the RTX 5090 Lightning Z is the 8 inch display built into the water block. This screen can show system stats and adds visual appeal, especially for users who mount their GPU vertically. To fully enjoy this feature, a compatible case will be needed.

MSI has also confirmed that only 1,300 units of this graphics card will be made worldwide. This makes it a very rare product aimed at collectors, overclockers, and extreme PC builders. Pricing and release date have not been shared yet, and full performance reviews are still pending.
