Edifier MR3 Studio Monitor Review

Edifier MR3 Studio Monitor Review

Enos Tech Verdict

The Edifier MR3 speakers offer a lot of bang for the buck. They have great power, sound, and can be used with multiple different connectivity options. While they may not have as many inputs as some competitors, this has likely helped Edifier keep the price down and allow them to offer a better value for the money.

Pros:

  • Good clean audio
  • Multiple connectivity options
  • Price-to-performance ratio

Cons:

  • Could do with more inputs
  • Lacking a bit in the bass/low-end department

Closer Look

The MR3 speakers are available in black and white, with both colorways having some copper accenting. The copper gives them a bit more of an elegant look and will really help them stand out in your system.

Their compact size will allow them to easily fit on your desk, next to your monitor, without taking up too much room.

For ease of use, one of the speakers has a volume knob that doubles as a power button. It also has headphone and AUX inputs to make your life much easier should you want to use these on a standard desk.

The MR3 speakers are great for close-up listening but are also powerful enough to fill a decent mid-sized room. They can deliver 18W*2(RMS) total output power and 92.5dB SPL peaks at 1 meter away. This is loud enough to offer a great listening experience and make it very hard to talk to the person next to you

On the back, there is a bit going on. While one speaker only has the speaker wire inputs, the other has a whole host of things going on to help you enjoy the MR3 as best possible, no matter where you’re using them.

Those looking to use the speakers with their phones or similar will be happy to see that there is an included Bluetooth button.

Edifier knows that no two rooms are identical so they have gone and included a pair of acoustic tuning knobs. These will allow you to adjust the high and low frequencies based on your needs, giving you complete control and impressive sound no matter what room you decide to use your MR3 speakers in.

There are even TRS ( Balanced) and RCA (Unbalanced) inputs. While RCA may be more commonly used for the everyday user, those who can make use of the TRS inputs will enjoy a better overall sound quality, which is a must in professional environments.

Performance and Final Words

While I am by no means a true audiophile, even I can appreciate the sound that comes from the MR3 studio monitors. Of course, I like my music and videos just as much as the next guy, but I wouldn’t call my equipment professional grade, or even enthusiast level, for that matter. I primarily use my PC and phone for 99% of what I do during the day.

While the low-end of things was as prevalent as other speakers I have tested, it definitely is still noticeable, and for your everyday user, won’t be an issue at all. The overall sound quality is superb and is more than enough to be enjoyed throughout my house, especially downstairs where the speakers are located.

Setting up and using the MR3 was as easy as you like. Even connecting to Bluetooth wasn’t a hassle, and was a nice touch as it allowed me to skip songs easily via my phone when I was out of the room. Using the speakers on my PC to listen to music and watch movies was quite impressive as well.

The MR3 studio monitors have now found their way from my test PC to my personal PC so I can continue to enjoy using them, especially via Bluetooth for the time being. It really is nice to be able to enjoy such a quality sound while still being able to control things right from my phone!
