Valve Steam Frame launch looks closer with new Proton and Qualcomm updates

Valve’s upcoming Steam Frame may finally be getting close to launch as new updates continue to appear online. After the launch of the Steam Controller earlier this year, attention has now shifted toward the remaining hardware products in Valve’s 2026 line-up, including the Steam Machine and the Steam Frame.

A recent update to Proton 11 Beta 3 has added better support for Arm-based systems through Valve’s FEX emulator. The update moves Proton to FEX-2605 and improves performance for both 32-bit and 64-bit games. It also brings better controller stability and support for newer Qualcomm chipsets.

The changes are important because the Steam Frame is expected to use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Mobile platform. Since many PC games are built for x86 systems, Valve needs strong emulation support to make those games run properly on Arm hardware. These new Proton improvements suggest Valve is continuing to prepare the device for gaming compatibility before launch.

The Steam Frame has also appeared on Qualcomm’s XR, VR, and AR Finder page. The listing does not reveal many technical details, but it confirms features like advanced CPU and GPU performance, AI acceleration, and fast connectivity. While the information is still limited, the appearance of the device on Qualcomm’s platform adds more weight to rumours that the hardware is nearing release.

Valve has also made small updates to the Steam Store’s hardware pages in recent weeks. Alongside reports claiming the company has been stocking US warehouses with Steam hardware, many signs now point toward Valve staying on track with its planned first half of 2026 release window.

Even though Valve has not officially announced a launch date yet, the growing number of software updates and hardware listings strongly suggest that the Steam Frame could arrive sooner rather than later.
