REDMAGIC 10S Pro review: The ultimate gaming beast of 2025

The REDMAGIC 10S Pro is the newest phone in the REDMAGIC 10 series, which also includes the REDMAGIC 10 Pro and REDMAGIC 10S Pro+. It is the most powerful model of the lineup, built mainly for hardcore gamers.

This phone brings a bold gaming design, a big 6.85-inch AMOLED display, and an under-display selfie camera. Powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Leading Version – an overclocked chip topping out at 4.47 GHz, with Redcore R3 Pro gaming processor, it also packs shoulder triggers, Magic Key, and Game Space features. With a 7,050mAh battery and 80W fast charging, the REDMAGIC 10S Pro offers serious gaming power starting at just $649.

Unboxing

The REDMAGIC 10S Pro comes in a premium box with a stylish design. The top part is grey, the lower part is black, and the quality feels solid. On the lid, there is an engraved X branding that gives the box a unique look.

Opening the box is very satisfying. On the top, you first get a small box that holds the paperwork and a protective back cover. Lifting it reveals the phone itself, placed neatly in the centre. Under the phone, the charger and USB-C cable are stored in a separate plastic container, each in its own section. The layout feels organised and premium, making the unboxing experience quite special.

A closer look

Taking a closer look at the REDMAGIC 10S Pro, the design instantly shows this is a true gaming phone. It measures 163mm x 76mm x 9mm and weighs 229g (0.5 lbs), which makes it a heavy device. The design of the REDMAGIC 10S Pro is quite similar to the 2024 REDMAGIC 10 Pro, but this time it feels more refined. The new model has better thermal control and a cleaner finish around the frame and fan area, giving it a more polished and solid look.

The size and sharp edges mean you need a tight grip, and after holding it for long periods outside gaming, your hands may start to ache. On the front, there is nothing but a flat screen with very thin bezels and a 95.3% screen-to-body ratio. The under-display selfie camera makes the display look almost edge-to-edge.

The back is where things get exciting. The transparent glass shows some of the phone’s internals, while RGB lighting highlights the REDMAGIC logo and the cooling fan area. The frame feels cleaner, with fewer visible screws and sharper edges that add a premium touch.

Its standout feature is the 23,000RPM RGB-lit cooling fan, neatly placed behind a precision-cut grille. This works with the updated ICE-X 2.0 cooling system, which includes a new vapour chamber, a 10-layer structure, and liquid-metal thermal control. Together, they keep the phone cool and quiet, even during long and heavy gaming sessions.

The REDMAGIC 10S Pro has a design that clearly focuses on gaming, with every side of the phone serving a purpose. On the right side, often called the control centre, most of the action happens. Here, you’ll find two capacitive shoulder triggers placed on the corners. These act as L1 and R1 buttons during gaming and offer a super-fast 520Hz touch sampling rate for instant response.

Just below them sits the signature red Game Space slider, which quickly switches the REDMAGIC 10S Pro into gaming mode for peak performance. You’ll also find the round power button and volume rockers here, keeping all the essential controls within easy reach. The visible grille along this edge is part of the ICE-X cooling system, which allows the 23,000 RPM internal fan to push or pull air, maintaining ideal temperatures during heavy use.

Moving to the left side, you’ll notice it mainly supports cooling and connectivity. The air vent here completes the airflow system, working together with the opposite vent for efficient heat control. There’s also a set of magnetic pogo pins designed to attach accessories like an external cooler or desktop dock, giving gamers even more flexibility.

The top edge houses a 3.5mm headphone jack, something many gaming phones skip these days but is still vital for wired, low-latency sound. A secondary microphone is also placed here for clear audio pickup. At the bottom, there’s the USB Type-C port for charging and data transfer, which supports USB 3.2 Gen 2 speeds and even display output through DisplayPort. The SIM card tray, primary microphone, and one of the stereo speakers are also located here, completing the layout.

Overall, every part of the REDMAGIC 10S Pro’s frame has been thoughtfully designed for performance and practicality. From the responsive shoulder triggers and dedicated Game Space slider to the advanced cooling vents and wide range of connectivity options, this phone is built from the ground up to deliver an unmatched gaming experience.

Display and sound

The REDMAGIC 10S Pro comes with a large 6.85-inch BOE AMOLED display with a 1.5K resolution of 2688×1216 pixels. It supports refresh rates of 60Hz, 90Hz, 120Hz, and 144Hz, giving users full control over smoothness and battery life. While it doesn’t have LTPO for automatic switching, the manual options make it easy to adjust performance when needed.

Touch response is one of the best features of this display. It offers a 2500Hz single-finger touch sampling rate and 960Hz multi-touch support, making every touch and swipe feel instant and accurate. Compared to the REDMAGIC 10 Pro, this screen offers better brightness, now reaching close to 2000 nits, and more consistent colours from different angles.

The screen looks bright, sharp, and natural without overly saturated colours. TÜV Rheinland low blue light certification helps reduce eye strain during long gaming or movie sessions. With the under-display selfie camera, the front looks completely clean, offering a full-screen experience that feels perfect for gaming.

Sound quality is equally impressive. The dual 1115K stereo speakers produce clear and balanced sound with good highs and solid bass. The phone also keeps the 3.5mm headphone jack on the top, a useful feature for gamers who prefer wired headphones and IEMs. With DTS:X Ultra and Snapdragon Sound support, the REDMAGIC 10S Pro offers rich, detailed, and low-latency audio for both games and entertainment.

Camera

Photography isn’t the main focus of the REDMAGIC 10S Pro, but the setup it offers works well enough for everyday use.

The phone comes with a triple camera system, starting with a 50-megapixel main sensor (Omnivision OV50E) paired with a 7P lens setup, anti-glare coating, optical image stabilisation, and an f/1.88 aperture. In good daylight, shots look clean and nicely balanced, with warm colours and solid detail. HDR performs well under bright sunlight, and the camera app feels quick and easy to use, though a bit basic in layout.

There’s a small delay when capturing back-to-back photos, likely due to software tuning, but the burst mode helps to catch most of the action. Low-light photos are acceptable, with a dedicated night mode that brightens scenes without overdoing the effect. You might still notice some softness and light flares around lamps or bright spots.

The 50-megapixel ultrawide camera (OV50D) handles wide shots nicely with only mild distortion. It delivers cooler tones than the main camera, and edge sharpness drops slightly, but overall, it performs better than what most gaming phones offer in this range.

The 16-megapixel under-display selfie camera blends perfectly into the screen, offering an uninterrupted display design. It’s good for casual selfies and video calls in daylight but struggles a bit in dim rooms, with lower sharpness and contrast. A small 2-megapixel depth sensor supports portrait shots, though the results can vary.

Video recording goes up to 8K, but 4K at 60 fps is the sweet spot, giving smoother footage and better colour control. Autofocus works quickly but can lose track with fast-moving subjects.

While this isn’t a camera for professionals, it’s reliable for daily use and marks an improvement over older REDMAGIC models. Compared to the REDMAGIC 10 Pro, the tuning feels slightly refined with better colour handling, keeping the overall performance consistent and dependable.

Performance

The REDMAGIC 10S Pro packs serious power. It runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Leading Version, clocked up to 4.47 GHz, with the GPU reaching 1.2 GHz. You also get up to 24GB of LPDDR5T RAM and 1TB of UFS 4.1 Pro storage. Everything loads fast and runs smooth.

The phone also includes the Red Core R3 Pro chip. This chip handles gaming tasks like frame boosts, AI upscaling, sound effects, vibrations, and heat control. It takes some load off the main Snapdragon processor, keeping the phone cooler during long gaming sessions.

Performance is excellent. Games like PUBG Mobile, NFS No Limits, and Call of Duty Mobile all run at their highest settings without any lag or frame drops. The gameplay stays smooth, and the phone barely heats up even after hours of play.

The REDMAGIC 10S Pro also shines with its 120 fps gameplay, fast touch response, and detailed graphics. The Red Core R3 Pro chip ensures lower input delay and more stable frame rates.

With added features like shoulder triggers, cooling fan control, and GPU tuning through Game Space, this phone feels built for gamers. It offers a console-like experience right in your hands.

Geekbench 6 results

The REDMAGIC 10S Pro shows incredible power in Geekbench 6 tests. The device, listed as nubia NX789J, scored 3132 in single-core and 9775 in multi-core performance. That’s a big jump from the last model.

These scores beat many flagship phones with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, like the Galaxy S24 Ultra. It’s about 45% faster in both single and multi-core results.

The GPU performance is just as strong. It scored 20298 in the OpenCL test, showing serious graphics power.

If these numbers are correct, the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 isn’t just an upgrade, it’s a major leap. Gamers and power users can expect smoother gameplay, faster app loading, and better performance in every task.

The REDMAGIC 10S Pro is shaping up to be one of the most powerful phones of the year.

Battery and connectivity

The REDMAGIC 10S Pro packs a massive 7,050mAh dual-cell battery, one of the biggest you’ll find in any phone. Even with the 144Hz refresh rate on, battery life is solid. Light users can easily get more than a day and a half, while heavy gamers can still play all day without worry.

Charging is fast too. The included 80W charger powers the phone from 0 to 50% in just 15 minutes, and a full charge takes less than 40 minutes. There’s no wireless charging, but it’s an understandable choice considering the phone’s cooling system and power demands.

The USB Type-C port is powerful too. It supports both charging and display output. I connected the phone to my portable monitor using a Type-C cable. It played games on a big screen while charging at the same time.

For gamers who like streaming or playing on larger displays, this feature is a big win. It makes the REDMAGIC 10S Pro feel more like a true gaming console in your pocket.

RGB Lighting

The REDMAGIC 10S Pro continues the brand’s gaming identity with stunning RGB lighting that feels both stylish and functional. The back features a glowing REDMAGIC logo, a new X logo near the camera, and an RGB cooling fan visible through the glass panel. When the fan spins, it lights up in multiple colours, giving a strong gaming vibe while showing that the cooling system is running. The shoulder triggers also feature RGB lights, adding to the overall look and making gameplay feel more immersive, especially in dark environments.

All lighting effects can be fully customised through the settings. You can change colours, patterns, and even link effects to different actions like calls, charging, or gaming. Each zone, including the logo, fan, and shoulder lights, can be controlled separately, letting you create your own setup. The lights can also stay on even when the screen is off, giving the phone a unique visual appeal. You can even turn on the fan’s lighting just for looks, making the REDMAGIC 10S Pro not just a gaming powerhouse but also one of the most striking phones in its class.

Final verdict

The REDMAGIC 10S Pro is a real gaming beast that continues to lead the gaming phone market. It keeps the REDMAGIC legacy strong with powerful performance and a bold design made for gamers. The flat back design with zero camera bump is something rare in this category and price range. It feels a bit heavy, but that adds to the solid and premium look. The RGB lighting on the logo, X mark, and cooling fan gives it a true gaming feel, and you can still customise the lights and colours easily.

The display is bright, smooth, and sharp with an excellent screen-to-body ratio. Watching movies or gaming feels immersive, and the full screen without any camera hole looks clean and modern.

In performance, this phone is a powerhouse. You can throw anything at it, from Android games to emulators or console titles, and it handles them all easily. Games like Genshin Impact, PUBG Mobile and NFS No Limits run smoothly without lag or frame drops. The Type-C port is also impressive. I connected it to my Portable Monitor, and it worked instantly with no settings needed. It even charged the phone while playing, which is perfect for long gaming or streaming sessions.

The battery life is excellent. The 7050mAh battery lasts a full day even with heavy gaming, and the 80W fast charging gives hours of backup in just 20 minutes. There is no wireless charging, but considering the cooling setup and performance, it is a fair trade.

The camera still has room for improvement. It records 4K and 8K videos with good stabilisation, but it is clear that the focus is on gaming. Overall, the REDMAGIC 10S Pro is one of the best gaming phones right now, built for gamers who value performance, design, and long-lasting power in one solid package.

I would like to say thank you to REDMAGIC for sending this amazing phone for review.
