Introduction

Thermalright is not a new name when it comes to the cooling solution for the PC. The company started in 2001 and has come a long way thriving in the cooling market. They have brought many changes in the design all around in this industry like convex cooler base. They are striving to achieve high-standard products by possible cooling solutions art design, the premium quality of material, and performance testing many times before release. Their current product line includes heatsinks for CPUs, GPUs, RAM, and Motherboard components. THERMALRIGHT’s primary focus is fanless heatsinks that can be used passively, making quiet computers. In the year of 2012, THERMALRIGHT established the Leetgion brand, starting to extend its business to peripheral and game-related products.

We have earlier tested Silver Arrow IB-Extreme Rev.B and TFX thermal paste from Thermalright. This time we are taking a look at Frozen Magic 360 Scenic from Thermalright. We have planned a round-up content on 360mm AIOs and Thermalright has joined us with this cooler. This is version 2 of the cooler and the main difference is the compatibility with the Intel LGA1700 socket. Since this cooler is compatible with AMD AM4 and uses pin catcher style mounting, it will work on AM5 as well and this is exactly how we have tested this cooler.

The Frozen Magic 360 Scenic V2 cooler is white from head to toe and Thermalright has provided 3x white color TL-B12W fans with it. These are non-RGB fans. The only RGB lighting is on the block. The pump is integrated in the tubes much like how we saw be quiet! Pure Loop and Pure Loop 2 coolers.

Closer Look

Let’s start taking a look at the Frozen Magic 360 Scenic V2 cooler starting with the radiator.

The radiator is made of aluminum material. The complete assembly is white color spray coated. The dimension of this radiator is 397x120x27mm (with tolerances). The FPI count is 20 and there are 12 channels for the coolant flow. The height of this unit is 27mm. Adding 25mm fans would increase the overall height to 53 to 54mm including the heads of the screws. There is a gap of 105mm between any two fan mounting holes on the radiator on the opposite sides.

Thermalright has done a good job in fin stacking. We did not find any bend or broken fin on this radiator.

The far chamber has a rectangular layout and there is no branding of any sort over here. The radiator outlook resembles the DeelCool LT series coolers.

The tubes are installed on barb fittings and the connection is well concealed using white color clamps. This gives a clean outlook to the unit. We can see housing integrated into the tubes. That is the pump of this unit. There is a serial number sticker pasted over this end.

The pump of this unit is integrated into the tubes. This would eliminate the vibration (almost) of the block on the CPU. This design can also help in avoiding a potential lawsuit (Asetek Patent) by using a different design. The pump is rated for up to 5300 RPM ±10% with a current rating of 0.12 ±20% Amps. The maximum rated power of the pump is 1.5W. The minimum flow rate is 1500 mL/min or 1.5L/min. the maximum lift or pressure bar is 1.6M. This unit is using Ceramic bearings with a life expectancy of 40,000 hrs.

The above picture shows another angle at the pump housing which is also white in color. There is a cable coming out from the rear side of this housing.

This pump is powered by a 3-pin connector cable which is flat in design.

Looking at the sides of the main frame of this radiator, we can spot Thermalright branding in the middle.

There is no protective plate under the mounting holes. This plate prevents damage to the fins due to accidental use of large-size screws or using excessive torquing. Also, note a gap between the side of the frame and fin stack. This means the actual thickness of the fin stack is less than 27mm.

Theramlright is using rubber tubes that run to approximately 410mm including the fitting connections. These tubes have braided nylon mesh sleeves for aesthetic purposes. The sleeve is also in white color.

Thermalright is using a circular design on the block housing. This housing has a dimension of 72x72x52.50mm where 52.50mm is the height of this unit. Probably the reason to have this much height is the integration of digital RGB LEDs on the top.

Looking at the front view of this housing, we can spot a flat cable coming out from the base. There is no branding or design element over here.

Thermalright is using standard 3-pin, 5V Addressable RGB connectors on this unit. We have a female and male connector that would allow a daisy chain to the other RGB elements in the build.

Looking at the rear side of this housing, we can see 90° angle adapters used over here and making connections with the tubes. This would allow the tubes to be slided somewhat as per requirement.

There is a copper base measuring 54x54mm. It has a protective sticker over it cautioning the user to remove it before installing the block.

There are insets and grooves on which the ring-mounting brackets are to be installed. The arrow symbol on the bracket needs to be matched with the arrow symbol over here.

Looking at the top, we can see a mirror-reflected top cover that addressable RGB LEDs underneath. There is a ring running across the unit. It is also addressable RGB backlit. There is a Thermalright logo in the center which illuminates. Unfortunately, there is no way to rotate the top cover to make this logo remain on up right side hence you would need to install the cooler in the right orientation accordingly.

Thermalright has provided three TL-B12W fans with their Frozen Magic 360 Scenic V2 cooler. These fans are also white color spray coated and these are non-RGB fans. Each fan has 9 blades. We can spot brass-made bearing shell. This design helps in providing longevity and minimum tolerance. The center has a large size diameter. There is a Thermalright text on one corner of the frame.

Each mounting corner has a white color cut-to-size anti-vibration pad. These pads are removable which reminds me of Noctua with its swappable and highly customized anti-vibration pads. I am not sure if Thermalright provides different color anti-vibration pads.

These fans have a sturdy frame that has a layered design. I think this layered design is for aesthetic purposes only.

Looking at the backside of the frame, we can see a sloping inward design on the corners with a three arms assembly. One arm is exposed and carries wires from the hub to the frame of the fan. The metal shell is visible from here as well. Power rating of the fan is printed on the sticker.

Each fan has a flat cable with a 4-pin PWM connector to power the motor of the fan.

Seems like Thermalright has customized the Fluid Dynamic Bearing hence naming it S-FDB V2 or maybe using a metal shell might be giving this name.

Installation and Clearance

We have tested the Frozen Magic 360 Scenic V2 cooler on AMD platform using Ryzen 7 7700X over GIGABYTE X670E AORUS MASTER motherboard. Installation is quite simple and takes only a few steps:

  • Install AMD ring bracket on the block.
  • Peel off the sticker from the base of the block.
  • Install fans on the radiator.
  • Install radiator as per requirement
  • Apply thermal paste over CPU IHS.
  • Place the block over the CPU so that the catchers on the ring bracket are inserted on the AMD stock brackets’ raised tabs.
  • Screw the spring-loaded thumb screws on the mounting bracket.
  • Connect the cables.
  • Installation is complete.

This unit has a dimension of 397x120x55mm with fans. Keep these dimensions in mind for the PC Case clearance. The Frozen Magic 360 Scenic V2 cooler has no obstruction for the PCIe slot and DIMM slots.

Digital RGB Lighting

Since Thermalright is using a standard addressable RGB connector on the block, this unit would work the RGB solution on the supported motherboards from manufacturers. We have tested the cooler’s RGB lighting using GIGABYTE RGB FUSION 2.0 app and found it working fine. Here are a few pictures. Sorry for the crap pictures. I am recovering from a total hip replacement surgery and still under precautions hence taking things slow.

We have used below mentioned configuration to test the performance of the Frozen Magic 360 Scenic V2 cooler:

Disclaimer: Every silicon is different hence no two same SKUs are likely to take the same voltage to yield same performance at same thermals per se but margin would be close. Not every stress test run may yield the same result which could be due to various reasons like thermal paste application, ambient temperature variation, the mounting pressure of the cooler, etc. This is very why we have listed our variables and their settings. Variables not mentioned are on Auto setting. The new platforms from both camps have a high thermal density resulting in high temperatures. This makes testing coolers on these platforms the old way makes difficult.

Result

Thermalright Frozen Magic 360 Scenic Thermal Performance

The Thermalright Frozen Magic 360 Scenic has performed admirably well. The results are self-explanatory. We are reporting delta temperature in the graph due to slight variation in the room temperature throughout the testing.

Noise

The fans are not loud and made roughly 51~52 dB(A) at an ambient sound level of 32 dB(A).

Conclusion

When we tested Thermalright Silver Arrow IB-E Extreme Rev.B air cooler, we found it to be a high-performance cooler although at high noise output from the fans. The v2 here implies that this cooler is compatible with Intel LGA1700 socket. This is a white color liquid cooler from head to toe that would make your white-themed build more pleasant looking as it blends really nice and uses subtle digital RGB lighting on the block and non-RGB fans much like DeepCool LT720 White cooler though the DeepCool cooler has more vivid digital RGB lighting. We are not sure about the OEM of this unit but it is neither ASETEK nor APALTEK.

The Frozen Magic 360 Scenic V2 cooler is using an aluminum-made radiator having a dimension of 397x120x27mm. The overall height of this unit would be 55m after installing the fans. This radiator has FPI count of 20 with 12 channels for coolant flow. The overall fin stacking is satisfactory. Complete assembly is white color spray coated. Thermalright is using rubber tubes with braided nylon mesh sleeves in white color over these tubes. These tubes have a length of approximately 410mm including the connection with the fittings.

The pump housing is integrated into the tubes. The pump is rated for up to 5300 RPM ±10% with a current rating of 0.12 ±20% Amps. The maximum rated power of the pump is 1.5W. Minimum flow rate is 1500 mL/min or 1.5L/min. the maximum lift or pressure bar is 1.6M. This unit is using Ceramic bearings with a life expectancy of 40,000 hrs. This pump is powered by a 3-pin connector cable. I wish they had done a PWM design for the pump but not complaining as the majority of the AIOs have a 3-pin design anyway.

The block has a circular design with a mirror-finished top cover that is RGB backlit. There is a dual-loop design on this block. The boundary of the top lid illuminates as well as the Thermalright branding in the center. Thermalright is using standard 3-pin, 5V digital RGB connectors (male + female) for this purpose. Using standard connectors would make this cooler compatible with supported RGB lighting solutions on the major motherboard manufacturers. This unit has a copper base measuring 54x54mm. This housing has a dimension of 72x72x52.5mm.

Thermalright is using three TL-B12W fans with this cooler. These are high-performance fans featuring brass-made shell for the bearing. This design helps in long-term stability and minimized tolerances. These fans are rated for 2150 RPM ±10%. They can generate a maximum of 69 CFM airflow at a static pressure of 2.87 mmH₂O generating 28.1 dB(A) noise. These fans don’t have RGB lighting. They have a bold but pleasing outlook. The anti-vibrations pads are removable. I am not sure if Thermalright provides more colored pads or it is just a design feature. These fans are using S-FDB V2 bearing. These seem to be customized Fluid Dynamic Bearings. Each fan has a flat cable with a 4-pin PWM connector.

Thermalright has provided TF7 thermal paste with this cooler which has a thermal conductivity rating of 12.8 W/m-k. It is a gray color paste with non-electrically conductive properties. There is also a 3-way PWM splitter cable and a SATA powered 2-pin socket to power the pump directly. Installation of the Frozen Magic 360 Scenic V2 cooler on AMD AM5 socket is a walk in the park. You literally just need AMD ring bracket and nothing else. This not only makes the installation convenient but also reduces the installation steps. The ring bracket is installed at the base of the unit where you would need to align the arrow symbol on the base with the arrow symbol on the bracket. The bracket slides in and is locked up much like an ASETEK mounting.

It was difficult finding the right price for the Frozen Magic 360 Scenic V2 cooler but based on our search, this cooler can be found at or around USD 95 Thermalright is offering a 5-year warranty of this cooler. This cooler packs a solid performance punch which makes it a winner of price to performance ratio. It is hard to find a competing AIO in this price range at the moment excluding the ALPHACOOL T38 cooler offering a good performance with RGB lighting and 5-year warranty. This cooler comes recommended by us.
